The Norwegian Association of Wholesale Grocers (NAWG)

The Norwegian Association of Wholesale Grocers is a grocery trade association dealing with policy issues of common interest to member companies in particular with regard to the authorities and cooperation with manufacturing grocery industry. The Association contributes to a market based on effective competition thereby fostering the free and safe choice by consumers of groceries. Work areas cover public duties levied on goods or players in the sector, legislation and regulations covering inter alia competition policy, food safety/healthy food, alcoholic beverages, agricultural policies pertaining to WTO/EU and developing countries, non prescriptive medicines, optimisation and recycling of packaging, logistics.

The biggest member companies are NorgesGruppen ASA and ICA AS. They cover about 60% of the Norwegian grocery trade and are engaged in distribution and sales to consumers through grocery stores, hotels, catering, restaurants and several thousand convenience shops. Their business activity represent approximately 30,000 man years. They are among the biggest Norwegian companies and have close international links in their sector of business.
